What is the best place in Mexico for a family vacation?

We are looking for a place to relax in Mexico. We are a family of 5, middle class, actively interested in the culture and exploring in Mexico AND getting out of the cold. Our plot is to glide late March 2006 & waste a week playing on the beach, body surfing, hiking and any other fun outdoor activities. We also like authentic Mexican food.

I'm eager to hear your comments...

Every year my family goes to Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico. It’s just north of Puerto Vallarta (so it’s much less touristy) and it’s a very nice small town. There is a main resort there called Decameron, and there are several villas , large and small, that you can rent for reasonable prices. If you like endeavor, it’s right on a gorgeous beach on the Pacific wit parasailing, banana boats, fishing tours, and all sorts of other activities. The town is full of seats to get classic mexican cuisine, but you can also drive into Puerto Vallarta (in this area 30 minutes). If you went there you would glide into Puerto Vallarta, where if you try and find extra seats on a charter flight, can get an incredible deal.

Xcaret a resort/nature theme park is in this area 40 minutes away from the Cancun airport. It is an all inclusive resort with fantastic mexican, carribbean, and southwest restaurants inside. The nature theme park has snorkeling, underground rivers you can swim through, and lots of native animals.(leopards, monkeys, etc.) Fantastic beaches also and breakfast and lunch buffets.

If you want beatiful beaches, a nice silent town, and a family vacation try Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo its like Cancun but not very crowded and its family oriented.

I would also say Ixtapa. Its smaller but more for a family. They don’t have all the quick food restaurants like most of the other vacations spots in mexico. Its very hot with every day around 90 and not a cloud in the sky.
